How a Suction-Feed Blasting Y Gun Works

In a suction-feed sandblasting system, the Y Gun has two hose connections. One hose delivers compressed air into the gun body, while the second hose uses a vacuum created by the airflow to draw abrasive media from a hopper or bucket. The media and air mix inside the gun and exit through the nozzle, producing the abrasive jet used for cleaning, profiling, or paint removal.

The pickup tube on the media side often includes vents that let operators adjust the air-to-media ratio. Opening these vents reduces the vacuum pull, lowering media consumption for delicate work. Actual wear life depends on blast pressure, media type, media hardness, and operating hours. Inspect the gun body and internal passages regularly for erosion, and replace the gun when the bore enlarges beyond acceptable limits, as this reduces blasting efficiency and increases air consumption.
