Product description
Details buyers use to confirm grade, use and supply.
Low-Aggression Coatings Removal for Sensitive Substrates
Unlike aggressive mineral or metallic abrasives, Plastic Abrasive 16 mesh removes coatings through a clean, chipping action that leaves the underlying substrate intact. The urea polymer formulation is harder than walnut shell but softer than aluminium oxide, making it the ideal middle-ground media for applications where substrate integrity is non-negotiable. It is widely specified for aerospace MRO, automotive restoration, marine hull stripping, and electronics mould cleaning.
Key Performance Characteristics
- Controlled aggression: Strips paint, powder coat, and light corrosion without etching or profiling the base material.
- Angular particle shape: Delivers a faster strip rate than rounded organic media like walnut shell or corn cob.
- Dust-minimised formulation: Generates less friable dust compared to mineral abrasives, improving operator visibility and reducing cleanup.
- Recyclable: Can be reused multiple times in suction-blast and pressure-blast cabinets before breakdown, lowering media cost per square metre.
- Metal-free: Eliminates the risk of ferrous contamination and flash rusting on non-ferrous substrates.
Typical Blast Process Compatibility
Plastic Abrasive 16 mesh performs reliably in suction (venturi) blast cabinets, pressure-pot blasting systems, and walk-in blast rooms. It is not recommended for wheel-blast machines due to the friable nature of the polymer. Optimal stand-off distance is 300–450 mm at 2.5–4.0 bar (35–60 PSI) nozzle pressure, though exact parameters should be validated on a test coupon for each substrate and coating system.
Pack Options & Ordering
SPA2Z supplies Plastic Abrasive 16 mesh in industry-standard pack sizes to suit both trial orders and bulk production consumption. Standard options include 25 kg bag, 50 kg bag, 1-ton jumbo bag, bulk tote, and drum pack. Minimum order quantities are flexible and confirmed at the time of enquiry based on stock availability and destination. We recommend ordering a trial quantity first to validate performance on your specific coating and substrate combination.
About SPA2Z — Your Supply Partner for Plastic Abrasive 16 Mesh
SPA2Z specialises in the supply of industrial blast media and surface preparation consumables for demanding production and maintenance environments. When you source Plastic Abrasive 16 mesh from us, you get practical, application-focused support—not just a material shipment. We help buyers select the correct mesh size for their coating system, validate compatibility with existing blast equipment, and arrange pack configurations that match site logistics and consumption rates.
Whether you are stripping aerospace coatings from composite panels, removing powder coat from aluminium extrusions, or maintaining mould tools in an injection-moulding plant, SPA2Z provides a straightforward enquiry-to-delivery process. Contact us with your required grade, quantity, and target substrate, and we will return a competitive quotation with lead time and shipping options.
Applications
Common industrial uses for this abrasive.
Aerospace MRO
Strips paint and primer from aircraft skins, composite fairings, and aluminium panels without etching or dimensional change.
Automotive Restoration
Removes body filler, paint, and powder coat from classic car panels, alloy wheels, and fibreglass body kits without warping thin sheet metal.
Marine Hull Stripping
Cleans antifouling paint and gelcoat from GRP/fibreglass hulls and aluminium superstructures without damaging the substrate.
Mould & Tool Cleaning
Strips release agents, plastic residue, and light corrosion from injection moulds, rubber moulds, and die-cast tooling without altering tool dimensions.
