In a centrifugal blast wheel, the motor coupling connects the drive motor to the wheel hub. It must handle constant rotational stress, vibration, and exposure to rebounding abrasive particles. Standard steel grades often fail prematurely under these conditions, leading to unplanned downtime.

Manganese steel (Hadfield steel) is specified for this application because of its work-hardening property. Under impact and compressive load, the surface hardness increases significantly while the core remains tough and crack-resistant. This makes it ideal for shot blasting spares where both impact and abrasion are present.

Compatibility and Replacement

This coupling is supplied as a replacement spare for centrifugal blast wheel assemblies used in tumblast, table, hanger, and continuous conveyor shot blasting machines. It is not a universal coupling. Buyers must verify the following before ordering:

• Bore diameter and keyway dimensions – must match both motor shaft and wheel shaft.
• Overall length and flange pattern – must align with existing guard and mounting.
• Machine make and model – helps our team cross-reference known specifications.

Material and Manufacturing

The coupling is cast in manganese steel with controlled heat treatment to achieve the correct initial hardness and toughness. Post-casting, critical bores and keyways are machined to dimensional tolerances. Each batch is visually inspected for surface defects and dimensional accuracy before dispatch.
