Why Alloy 625 for thermal spray
Alloy 625 is a nickel-based superalloy whose strength comes from the stiffening effect of molybdenum and niobium in the nickel-chromium matrix—no post-spray precipitation hardening is required. The same chemistry gives the coating outstanding resistance to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking, crevice corrosion, and oxidation at elevated temperatures. Service temperature ranges from cryogenic levels up to 982 °C (1800 °F), making the wire suitable for both seawater-exposed structures and high-temperature boiler components.
Typical uses and applications
- Bond coat under ceramic top coatings on boiler tubes and furnace parts.
- Salvage and dimensional build-up of machinable carbon steel and corrosion-resistant steel components.
- Particle erosion resistance at high temperatures in power generation and petrochemical plants.
- Oxidation and hot-gas corrosion protection for superalloy turbine and engine parts.
- Restoration of nickel-based superalloy components to original dimensions.
- Corrosion barrier in oxidizing and reducing environments, including waste-to-energy boilers.
Diameter selection and spray process
Choose the diameter that matches your spray gun and coating goal. The 2.0 mm wire on a 15 kg spool is the most popular general-purpose option for arc and flame spray. For fine-finish, thin coats on small parts, 1.6 mm wire works well in arc spray. For large structures, bridges, and tanks where higher deposit rates matter, 2.5 mm and 3.2 mm wires on 25 kg spools are the practical choice. All diameters are suitable for arc spray; 2.0 mm also runs well in flame spray guns. Contact tips, drive rolls, and guides must be sized to the wire diameter—send us your gun model if you need help matching.
About SPA2Z — Alloy 625 wires
SPA2Z supplies Alloy 625 thermal spray wire to applicators, maintenance teams, and distributors who need consistent diameter, clean chemistry, and spool packaging that works on the shop floor. We help you confirm the right diameter for your spray process, provide test certificates and material data sheets on request, and quote spool or bulk quantities with realistic lead times. Whether you are coating a single pump shaft or lining a full boiler, tell us the diameter, quantity, and destination—we reply with a clear price and delivery estimate.
